Our Community
_
As part of our mission to spread the knowledge and love of STEM topics, the Robotics team at Coppell High School located in Coppell, Texas frequently gives back time and effort to the community. This takes shape in many differnt ways, including but not limited to: mentoring other teams, service projects for the community, spreading awareness, and recruiting new kids for the program.
Team 3413 is proud to be the mentor of FLL Team SmileyFace, which in the recent qualifier at Parish Episcopal in Dallas swept the competition and took 1st place overall. Up until the competition, our mentors would spend many days a week after meetings or school to help guide the Middle School aged kids in finding the solutions to their technical problems. We also had a hand in helping the champion team in developing their project, which was a solution to solve a problem that faces humanity today. This is our second year in mentoring this team, and we are also currently looking to expand the number of teams that compete in this competition.

_Part of the team giving back to the community can be seen through service learning projects that the team participates in. Recently, when one of our members needed help in finishing her Gold Award for Girl Scouts, the team helped pitch in and work on her project. The team went out to the local community garden, weeded, re-soiled, and help maintain the state of the garden. At one point, the team even worked in the rain!
_The presence of our team in the community is rather large. The team can be seen in almost every single parade that the city holds, and our team works with the other teams in the Engineering School in order to come up with a cool way to go through each parade.
_Every year, the Engineering School at Coppell High School runs an Engineering Expo that attracts over 25 hundred people a year. Our team has participated in every single expo, and we hope to continue to do so. This year, in order to help our FLL and other FLL teams, as well as to raise awareness of STEM, held a practice scrimmage between the FLL teams. It was a huge success, and everyone who saw the scrimmage came away happy and smarter than they started at. Other booths that can be seen at the Expo include a Solar Car, MATE Robotics, STEM projects, multiple colleges, businesses, and many more.
_In order to help bring kids into STEM related fields, our team travels with the other projects in the School of Engineering to tour the middle schools and raise awareness of the various paths the 8th graders can take. These sessions are both fun and informative, as we pull off various STEM related activities to get the kids interested, as well as showing of the various things that we have done.
